It is estimated that 3,000 major illegal mineral oil dumping incidents take place in the European waters per year, amounting to between 15,000 and 60,000 tons in the North Sea. Most non-natural oil pollution at sea originates from routine ship operations, like tank washing and engine effluent discharges.

In the UK, under the Merchant Shipping (Oil Pollution Preparedness, Response and Co-operation Convention) Regulations, port authorities have a duty to prepare plans to monitor and clear inshore oil spills. Until now, continuous local area monitoring of marine operations has not been economically viable, resulting in passive, post incident detection with clean-up costs borne by the Port Authority.

Pelitec’s Pollution Monitoring & Detection solution delivers a marine operation solution capable of day and night operation. It provides Port Authorities, Marine Operation Providers and Vessel Owners with a low cost, immediately deployable and low-carbon detection and monitoring solution.

Our solution gathers evidence to support prosecution of offending parties, resulting in fines and claim compensation from offenders, removing the cost burden from Port Authorities. Results can be streamed globally providing overwatch co-ordination during detection and clean-up.
